The best protection you have against the sun is a physical barrier, like sensible outdoor clothes, sunglasses, and hats. Of utmost importance, however, is the use of sunscreen!

The sunscreen should be part of your daily skincare routine, right before applying foundation and makeup.

  • Apply a broad spectrum sunscreen before going outside and 15 minutes before being exposed to sunlight.
  • Check the label to ensure it protects against both UVA and UVB rays. Broad spectrum products are available as facial and body sunscreens as well as daily moisturisers.
  • Use a water resistant sunscreen when swimming or exercising hard enough to produce a sweat.
  • After swimming, towel dry and then reapply sunscreen.
  • Use sunscreen generously and reapply every two hours if you continue exposure to the sun.
  • Use a sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of 15 or higher, like Neutrogena Ultra-Sheer Dry-Touch. The higher the SPF the more protected you are. An SPF of 30, for instance, means that it will take 30 times as long for your skin to start to burn than without the protection of sunscreen.
