When you are in a rush, it iss tempting to skip your skincare routine or forget to put the sunscreen you are getting in the car anyway. Don’t!

Sun exposure is the number one cause of skin anomalies including blotchiness and uneven skin tone. Even on days when the sky is clouded over, the harmful ultraviolet rays can still get through. Take a look at how you can be affected and what you can do about it.

What causes Blotchy skin?

Apart from genes, which you can’t do anything about; the red, white or dark patches on your skin can also be caused by sun exposure. If you are not big on facial scrubs, the discoloration may become even more visible as your skin is not regularly exfoliated.

How can you prevent or treat Skin Blotchiness?

  • Keep your sun exposure to a minimum. Always apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen or daily moisturizer with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 15.
  • Exfoliate regularly with products containing alpha or beta hydroxy acids, loosening and sweeping away old skin cells and encouraging the growth of new, more evenly coloured skin.
  • Exfoliating also provides a smooth foundation on which to apply makeup and concealers to help mask blotchy skin.
